November 21st, 2025
Being laid off sucks. Being laid off with a wife and two small kids sucks even worse. Being laid off on the same day you’re putting your long-time dog down feels like overkill. But that was my day on November 21st, 2025, after being let go from CHGO, a day I’ll never forget. This was my first time being laid off. NBC Sports Chicago dissolved, so the whole channel was let go. This was my first time being told that my individual skillset, personality, and contributions will no longer be needed. I had progressed in my career with only an upward trajectory. I haven’t been out of work since I started working at White Castle as a teenager. This is new territory. After 10 plus years in the business, it’s been officially put on hold.
After a few months, it really started to settle in. This is not going to be as simple as I had originally hoped. Here I am as a creative, with no place to create. A sports media producer with no platform. I had given so much advice to others about having something and building something on your own for cases just like this.
Hypocrite!
I have always had multiple jobs before, but I soon cut all of them off to focus on one main thing. I wanted to see what it was like to fully focus on a single project, and I got caught in the end. But, I’m not discouraged. My wife Stephanie, a licensed therapist, has helped me through this. I honestly don’t know where I would be without her. Most importantly, we have our faith in Jesus, plus our family, church community, and industry friends who have supported us in various ways.
This leads us to today. According to scripture, the very first time a person by name was empowered by God to do something was a creative.
Exodus 31:1-5
“1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, 4 to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, 5 in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft.”
So, as a creative, why not appeal to the ultimate Creator? I needed to work out my creative muscle. I’m not the greatest writer, but I have thoughts. If you’ve been following my career, you know I'm not shy to share them- but this time, it’s different. I’ve realized that while sports is my passion, God is my provider. Bleacher Theology is where my gift for creative conversation meets faith, offering a new perspective for the everyday sports fan. I present Bleacher Theology!

Bleacher Theology will be a semi-weekly newsletter every Monday and Thursday morning, taking on subjects that take a look at the sports we all love through a Christian and biblical lens, even the hard stuff. My goal is to have a unique view on the topics in sports we all discuss, but backed by scripture and through the filter of Jesus, hopefully introducing some to who He is, and providing a different perspective on sports. Let’s do this together! Please take the time to join the email list and share with others who might enjoy this content.
